I believe that our next governor can win on the platform of putting an end to the wasteful High Speed Rail project and proposing that all of those billions in savings be dedicated to purchasing dozens of fire fighting aircraft and the building of more reservoirs to service them. This is pure Common Sense. This concept would certainly gain the support of the insurance companies that get stuck with the bills for restoration after wild fires and the utilities that bare the brunt of billions in liability law suits. I would contact the candidate for governor, Steve Hilton, and propose to him that he add this to his platform and that the Common Sense Party would support him. Though we are not recognized yet this would gain us some participation and publicity. Also, the Common Sense Party would now have a dog in the fight.

The HSR was a horrible idea. I am epileptic and unable to drive so I am all for expanding public transport and moving away from cars. At this point though, when no one is even using public transportation. It is an irresponsible waste of cash. Mindset needs to change first.
I strongly disagree. The CA-HSR is a fundamentally good idea that is being mismanaged by the CA-DEMs. We should be advocating for it to be managed with a greater eye towards fiscal responsibility and delivering results for the people of CA, not to unions and extant landowners. Only just in the past few years has anyone in Sacramento even begun to realize that endlessly slowing down infrastructure projects (like transit, pedestrianization, water storage, electrical transmission, fire management, and power generation) and business development for the sake of environmental protection just handed absolute veto power over public works to a random assortment of cranks and NIMBYs. They’re just barely making a dent in this issue, and while that’s good, it’s not enough. As a party, we should push CA further in that direction.
